It's one of those days where there is not a lot going on so I had a chance to sit down at the computer. I feel like I should post since I haven't in a while, but then I think nothing very interesting has happened since I last blogged. Here are some of the highlights of my week.
- Ben is home from work this week. As a private school teacher who teaches year round, he actually has three weeks of vacation. He took one this week and that might account for some of the reasons why I haven't posted in a while.
- Ben and I went to the temple Tuesday morning. I always have trouble staying awake during the morning sessions. It was great to get away, and this makes the third consecutive month we have been to the temple. Thanks, Sally and Dave!
- I let Melanie and Carter have a sleepover Tuesday night with all their cousins who live in town. That means there were four extra girls and two extra boys for a total of nine kids sleeping on my living room floor. I've been asked why I let everyone sleepover all at once. I know it sounds crazy, but Melanie's cousins are all very close in age. Melanie is nine and she has cousins that are 12, two that are 10, another that is Melanie's age, one that is 8, and one that is 5 who is close to Carter's age. If I have one kid sleepover then someone is sure to feel left out. If I have them all at once then no one feels left out, and I don't feel obligated to have a sleepover for quite some time.
- Riley bit himself yesterday. He was mad at Melanie for something but knew he shouldn't bite her so he bit himself. Yeah, he's a handful. If you ask him if he tasted very good he will tell you he did not!
- I went out with a long-time friend on Wednesday and we stayed out talking WAY past my bedtime. I've never been a night owl so anytime past 10:00 is past my bedtime. We had too much fun and it was really nice getting to know her again. You know who you are you amazing woman! :)
- Ben made his own homemade version of the Carl's Jr. six dollar guacamole burger. Mmmmm....it was quite delicious. We're having it again Sunday.
- Ben also made chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Mmmmm....delicious. I had two before I ate lunch today. Naughty, Missy!

Rain
Hasn't this rainy weather been lovely? It smells so good!
When I was a teenager, a good friend of mine used to say that when it rained it smelled like 'wet dirt'. I didn't really agree with her until years later when Ben, Melanie, and I moved to Vancouver, WA. When it rained there it didn't smell like anything. But here in this beautiful desert....ahhhh, lovely!
Besides, I don't have to wash my car anymore - the rain did it for me! Thanks, rain!

Technologically Challenged
As you can see, I decided to change my background for my blog. I like to frequently rearrange my furniture, also, but that really doesn't have anything to do with my blog.
It shouldn't have taken me as long as it did, but I tried to experiment. I found a website that had some really cute blogger skins, but I couldn't change the text color or background color. So, then I went back to the website that worked much easier for me. It's the cutest blogs on the block, I think. Anyway, it worked much better. Even though it took me a minute to remember how to change the format, and Ben finally helped me with it, it turned out better than the first one I tried.
I'm trying to stay out of the pit of the technologically challenged, but as a stay-at-home mom, I find it very easy to fall into that pit. Oh, well, computers and technology won't get me any further in eternity, right?

A Typical Night: Part II
Here we go again, only this time we were attempting to have family prayer.
On a Thursday evening, a family of five gets ready for family prayer. Four are quietly kneeling together with arms folded while the fifth is playing "I'm more stubborn than you."
Ben: "Riley, we're ready for prayer. Will you come join us?"
Riley: Staring Ben down.
Ben: "Riley, we're going to have to start without you then."
Riley: Staring Ben down.
Ben: "One, two, three, four, five."
Riley: Staring Ben down.
Ben: "OK, we're starting now."
Riley: "NOOOOO!!!!"
Ben: "Whose turn is it to say the prayer?"
Missy: "Riley's."
Carter: "Who do you want to help you, Riley?"
Riley: "You."
Carter: "Dear Heavenly Father,"
Riley: "Heavenly Father,"
Carter: "Thank you for this day."
Riley: "...day."
Carter: "Help us have a good sleep tonight."
Riley: "...sleep tonight."
Carter: "Help us..."
Riley: "Nose wipe!"
At this point, Riley runs into the bathroom to get a tissue for his nose. We are all waiting for him as quietly as we can, which is hard because we're all trying not to giggle. He comes back and says, "Don't start without me."
Carter: "In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."
Riley: "Amen."

"...the great happiness that comes from keeping the Lord's commandments and the great sorrow that results from pride and selfishness."
Carter raising his hand.
"Yes, Carter?" I say.
"Um...what was that one word?"
"Which one, selfishness?"
"No. I can't remember. Could you read a little bit again so I can remember what word it was?"
"...great sorrow that results from pride and selfishness."
Carter raising his hand again.
"Yes, Carter?"
"What does pride mean?"
"It means that you think you and the things you have are better than others'."
"Oh," says Carter.
"And it came to pass (Riley, please stop driving on the page with your car. I can't see the words) that the thirty and fourth year passed away, (Riley, no more sound effects) and also the thirty and fifth, and behold (Riley, if you can't stop driving on the page I'll have to set you off my lap) the disciples of Jesus had formed a church of Christ (Riley, please stop or you'll have to get down) in all the lands round about. And as many (Riley, please don't be so noisy)as did come unto them, and did truly repent of their sins, (much screaming from Riley because I fulfilled the aforementioned threat of getting him off my lap) were baptized in the name of Jesus, and they did also receive the Holy Ghost.
Riley - "Holy Ghost help me."
Mom - "That's great. And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, "
Riley - "Holy Ghost help me build choo choo."
Mom - "The Holy Ghost helped you build a choo choo?"
Riley - "Yea."
Mom - "OK. the people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all the face of the land, (Riley, please stop making the car fly in front of the page, I can't see when you do that.) bothNephites and Lamanites , and there were no contentions and disputations among them, (Riley, do you want to get off my lap again?) and every man did deal justly one with another.
It honestly seems like the thirty and fourth and fifth and sixth years passed away while we were reading tonight. Is it any wonder why we only made it through five verses?!

When it rains it pours!
Now that the paperwork and all the financial mumbo jumbo is settled (our loan recorded Tuesday, Hooray!) you'd think that things would settle down. Not so.
Yesterday my realtor called and asked how everything was going. She said it takes a while for all the kinks to get worked out with new construction. I told her there were no problems I could think of....but I should have taken her call as a sign of things to come!
As of today, our landline is still down, (thank heavens our Internet connection works), our dishwasher is full of water and isn't draining, and our smoke alarms (to which they left no manual or instructions) started chirping.
I'm going out with my girlfriends tonight. I warned Ben I might not come back.

So very tired
It has been a long couple of weeks. We are finally in our OWN house! It recorded today and it is official. Hooray! I NEVER WANT TO MOVE AGAIN! And when and/or if we do, we're waiting until our kids are old enough to pack the house for us.
We finally were able to sign papers Friday, May 2, and move that afternoon. This weekend was long. Ben had a lot of hooking up of appliances to do and so the responsibility of unpacking on Saturday fell on my shoulders. Thank goodness for my family. My mom and Ben's mom and Sally and Tonia all helped watch my kids. We had so much help from Jeanne and Tonia and Jon and Joe and Lea and Tonia's kids moving our stuff (after 10 1/2 years of marriage and three kids, you tend to collect a lot of stuff - and we downsized like crazy). Tonia was great to help me clean the house we were renting. I seriously don't know what I would have done without their help. Thank you!
Once the house we were renting was taken care of and cleaned, I could focus on our new house. Ben was a sweetheart and helped me unpack late Sunday evening, even though he had to get up at 5:00 the next morning and head to Panguitch. I love Ben, but I really love watching him when he works. It never ceases to amaze me what a hard worker he is. I love you, Jerk.
My poor kids were so out of whack this weekend, they didn't know which end was up! The past two nights have gone better - they've been getting to bed by 8:00 and that helps like you would not believe! Poor things were foster children while we were so busy this past week.
But it's done. It's ours. No more papers to sign, no more waiting for someone else. It's OVER!
